Surf'n Smile Day

Just two months after founding the Brooklyn Surf Club in May 2023, we are turning our mission into reality: on August 5th, we will organize the first round of free surf lessons for children in underserved communities of New York.

Thanks to the tremendous support from individuals, we were able to make this initiative a reality. We are immensely grateful for the support we have received so far. Our first Surf'n Smile day will take place on August 5 at Rockaway Beach, and we would be delighted if you could join us on this special occasion. It will be a day filled with fun, laughter, and, of course, the incredible sensation of riding waves.

Furthermore, we are pleased to inform you that we are offering a unique volunteer opportunity. For those who would like to help the children during Surf'n Smile day, we are seeking volunteers to ensure they stay hydrated and energized throughout the event.

Our program for August 5:

9:00 am - 11:00 am: Volunteer check-in

  • Volunteer briefing for morning group and all-day group.
  • Set-up of check-in tent (Tiki Bar) and surf tent (beach) 
  • Where: Tiki Bar, Beach 67 (directly at A-train station) 

11:00 am - 12:00 pm: Check-in, group 1 (teens 12 years and older)

  • Check-in for all kids, required for surf group 1
  • Free ice cream and lemonade (sponsored by Ice Cream Window and Tiki Bar)
  • Lunch packages for all surfing kids (sponsored by Benny's Cuban Cafe) 
  • Where: Rockaway Tiki Bar, Beach 67

12:00 pm - 01.30 pm: Surfing group 1

  • Surf class for group 1 (run by Sierra Surf School, Toco Toby Surf and Breakwater Surf Co)
  • Lemonade, baking goods, and candy will be provided at the beach (sponsored by Rockaway Bakery, Tiki Bar and BonBon)
  • Where: Beach 67 (volunteers will guide you there, our tents are marked with Surf'n Smile Day flags)

01:30 am - 02:30 pm: Check-in group 2 (kids 11 years and younger)

  • Check-in for kids of group 2 and for all afternoon volunteers
  • Free ice cream and lemonade (sponsored by Ice Cream Window and Tiki Bar)
  • Lunch packages for all surfing kids (sponsored by Benny's Cuban Cafe) 
  • Where: Rockaway Tiki Bar, Beach 67

02:30 pm - 04.00 pm: Surfing group 2

  • Surf class for group 2 (run by Sierra Surf School, Toco Toby Surf and Breakwater Surf Co)

04:00 pm - 05.00 pm: Closing ceremony

  • Closing ceremony and Beach clean-up
  • Where: Beach 67 (volunteers will guide you there, our tents are marked with Surf'n Smile Day flags)

From 05:00 pm: After-surf drinks

  • Live music and some cold drinks to celebrate the Surf'n Smile Day
  • Where: Rockaway Tiki Bar, Beach 67
